Michel made sure to capture every moment for us, pictures I treasure now.
My son was diagnosed with anencephaly during our 1st prenatal ultrasound. From then on, we knew that our time with him would be extremely limited, but we were blessed to be his parents. We met with Michel, who is a part of the NICU palliative care team, after our 20-week ultrasound. She treated and spoke of him like any other baby, rather than a baby with a fatal diagnosis. She made me, as his mother, feel supported and heard. She went through every detail of what I wanted for his birth and assured me that she would do her absolute best to honor those. When his birthday came, Michel went above and beyond for our son and us. We were very unsure of how long he would have once he was born, and Michel made sure to capture every moment for us, pictures I treasure now. She also assisted in coordinating his baptism, which was one of the most important things for us. She also provided me with immense comfort, as she was one of the nurses tending to my son in his first minutes. I knew that he would be treated with dignity and care. Michel continued to provide us, now a family of 3, with forever memories, reassurance, and honest answers to hard questions. Michel was always present throughout our entire stay, and T's amazing 3 days. Even after his passing, she called and assisted us with coordinating the funeral home on a day that she was not working. As a grieving mother, I was very anxious knowing where my son was, and knowing that Michel was coordinating with the NICU staff and the funeral home (something she did not have to do on her day off) meant the absolute world to me. Michel continued to care for T and us, even when we weren't her "patients" by attending his funeral service and honoring his life. Having her as part of our medical care team made so much of a difference and has forever touched our hearts. Michel is an incredible nurse, but an even better person. I cannot thank her enough for the love, care, and comfort she provided my sweet boy.
