Knowing that she’d been rushing food, the nurse patiently sat beside her, coaxing her to eat a few spoonfuls, even sharing a light-hearted story just to make her smile.
During my mother’s confinement in the hospital for acute pneumonia, we were emotionally and physically drained. The nights were long, her breathing was labored, and hope seemed fragile. But there was one – Nurse Mica – whose compassion truly made a lasting difference.

One night, around 2 am, my mother began to have a severe coughing fit. I pressed the call button, and within seconds, Nurse Mica rushed in – not just with medical supplies, but with a calm and reassuring presence. She held my mother’s hand gently, elevated her, and skillfully adjusted the oxygen and syringe without alarming us. More than that, she spoke softly to my mother, calling her by name and telling her, I’m here. You’re safe. We’ll get through this together.

What moved me most was what happened on a particular day. While monitoring her vitals, Nurse Mica noticed my mother’s hands were cold. Without hesitation, she took the warm blanket and wrapped it around my mother’s hands. “This isn’t just about the treatment,” she said with a smile, It’s about comfort, too.” Later that night, Nurse Mica came back – not because she had to, but because she wanted to check if my mother had eaten anything before giving her medicine. Knowing that she’d been rushing food, the nurse patiently sat beside her, coaxing her to eat a few spoonfuls, even sharing a light-hearted story just to make her smile.

That simple act of warmth - both literal and emotional – made us feel seen, cared for, and not alone in this struggle. It reminded us that healing isn’t just about medicine; It’s also about human connection. In that moment, Nurse Mica wasn’t just a healthcare professional – she was an angel in scrubs.
