His passion for finding better ways to save lives affected by sepsis is palpable, and his commitment to the cause is contagious. Michael knows his “why” and lives it every day, inspiring those around him to be relentless in the fight against sepsis.
Michael is the NCAL Regional Clinical Practice Consultant for Sepsis. He has developed the program into a world class program that was the NCAL project chosen for the Vohs/Lawrence award nomination this year. Additionally, Michael with his team implemented the emergency department and inpatient sepsis clinical decision support tools in 2022-2023. The CDS tools implemented into the electronic medical record are showing promising results in decreasing length of stay and mortality. Michael demonstrates effective communication and global visioning that enables the NCAL facilities to call upon him for help when needed. He often reaches out to the facilities when he discovers they do not have a sepsis abstractor and will assist until the position is filled. Feedback on his performance from the facilities often involves comments about his "leaning in" and always being willing to help with improving their performance. Michael is an example of a KP employee who consistently demonstrates the seven KP behaviors and who delivers on time.
