He held her hand and patted it gently, and caringly stroked her forehead while he spoke loudly to her so she could hear him, as he caringly also made eye contact with her.
On Friday afternoon, I brought my mother into the Emergency Room to hopefully get an X-ray as she ended up having a 3-day-old left broken hip. Unfortunately, we arrived to the emergency room at 1:30 in the afternoon and we were still there at 8:30 that evening. A young man who was working the evening shift was my mother’s nurse. His first name was Michael, and he was most sensitive to my mother’s pain. He was gentle and caring about her comfort and kept us informed as to how soon she was going to be able to be transported to SMH. He brought her in some small cookies and water, as she had not had anything to eat since noon that day. I was so impressed by the way this young man could bring down my mother’s fears and anxiety about her pain and her condition. He held her hand and patted it gently, and caringly stroked her forehead while he spoke loudly to her so she could hear him, as he caringly also made eye contact with her. Such personal care is becoming increasingly rare and is definitely noteworthy when you witness it firsthand. This is precisely why I chose to share our gratitude and regard for this young man, as he most definitely demonstrated exemplary conduct and actions of human caring.
