From the beginning, Michael approached my father’s care with a level of empathy, presence, and warmth that immediately put us at ease.
I would like to nominate Michael for the DAISY Award in recognition of the outstanding care he provided to my father during his recent hospitalization. As a clinician with several years of experience working with nurses, I’ve seen firsthand what sets exceptional care apart, and Michael exemplifies it in every way. From the beginning, Michael approached my father’s care with a level of empathy, presence, and warmth that immediately put us at ease. He was personable, easy to talk to, and somehow made the hospital room feel less sterile and more human. It genuinely felt like having a trusted friend at the bedside. He took the time to understand not only my father’s medical situation but also the complex family dynamics involved in caring for an aging, sometimes stubborn parent. His ability to relate on a personal level made all the difference. Michael was also transparent and professional. If he didn’t know the answer to a question, he was honest about it and quick to find the information or consult with others. That humility, paired with his clear communication and confidence, spoke volumes about his integrity and commitment to patient care. I was truly impressed to learn that Michael is a new graduate nurse. His calm demeanor, clinical skill, and emotional intelligence are far beyond what I would expect at this stage in a nursing career. He never appeared stressed or hurried, and he created an environment of calm and trust, even during uncertain or tense moments. I couldn’t have wished for a better nurse to care for my father. Michael brought comfort, competence, and kindness at a time when we needed it most. For that, I am deeply grateful. He truly embodies everything the DAISY Award stands for.
