He took ownership of his care and the experience my guy had during this difficult time.
It's always a humbling experience to be on the opposite side of your job, and that is exactly what happened when staffing Mike on a unit. My potential spouse suffered a major stroke at the age of 32. For the first week, he was ventilated, finally tracked, and opened his eyes after about 2 weeks. Each day I saw him, he looked uncomfortable in general, even with nursing interventions. However, it was when Mike was assigned to his care that I saw a total difference in him. He was at a complete ease, his pressure was down, he smelled great, and most of all when he opened his eyes, he seemed ok. That's what you call "Owning it". He took ownership of his care and the experience my guy had during this difficult time. What made this all more special in my eyes is that, although I work with Mike, he did not know that he was taking care of my spouse, nor did we know he would be assigned to care for him. He deserves to be recognized because I know this can't be the only instance one of our patients received this kind of care. We need more people like Mike in the healthcare field.
