She knew what her patient needed and then pushed for it, which is all we could have asked for.
I would like to thank my nurse and share my story of why this nurse is so special. My grandfather was admitted to the cardiovascular ICU, and Mia was his nurse over the weekend. From the minute she started working with him, she was so positive and so kind. My grandfather was really struggling mentally, but Mia never gave up on him and really talked to him as if he was thriving. She knew when to joke with him and when to be more serious. She was a part of his care every stop of the way- coming in with the physicians to talk with him and be part of the discussion.

When you have so many people coming and going, it was so nice to have a familiar face with us. She was so kind to my family and always greeted us when we walked into the unit. She went above and beyond with every one of our requests and questions. She would answer us thoroughly and patiently. She celebrated his wins with us and supported us when he was down. She advocated for his care and what was best for her patient.

My grandfather said that he wanted someone to stay with him at all times, and Mia explained to us that normally, that's only allowed for patients for end-of-life care, but that she thought it would be for the betterment of her patient if we stayed. So, she advocated for him and was able to clear for us to stay with him in the unit overnight, and he really turned a corner when we did. She knew what her patient needed and then pushed for it, which is all we could have asked for.

I really can't imagine our experience without her. It became a staple for us to say, "Let's go talk to Mia about this". When she came in to tell us he was moving upstairs, she said she would check in with him if he were still in the hospital the following week when she arrived on shift, but luckily, he was discharged before then.

You could tell that the unit was busy, but Mia managed it flawlessly and never seemed rattled when she came into my grandfather's room. She always had a calm demeanor in what I imagine is a stressful environment. It was a dark and difficult time for me and my family, but Mia made a terrible situation so much more comforting. I'm so thankful for the care that he received in the ICU unit and am happy to report that he completely turned around and is doing much better at home. I just wanted to shout Mia's praises.
