NPICU is extremely privileged to have a nurse like Mia working for them, and any baby/family that has Mia involved with their care is lucky.
I gave birth to twin boys (L and A) at 27+1. From the moment they were born, it was a rollercoaster ride. L was extremely sick and, unfortunately, he departed this world at 38 days old. The day we lost L, Mia was looking after his brother A. Mia was involved with the palliation process of L, and if she hadn't been involved, that final day would have been absolutely disastrous. The care, compassion, and love Mia showed on that day and the days after it towards myself and my partner made coming back into NICU bearable. She took time out of her personal life to put photos into folders of the final day and put the recording of L's heartbeat onto a USB to give to us, so we didn't have to sort through it all ourselves.
Since then, she has cared for A on multiple occasions, and the care she has provided to A and to me through this difficult time has been beyond phenomenal. From the beautiful and funny entries in A's book, to being a shoulder for me to cry on when the grief hits, and being able to make us smile, laugh, and ease the tension for us when trying to navigate a very difficult situation. Mia is extremely devoted to her job, and it shows in her amazing nursing and personable skills. NPICU is extremely privileged to have a nurse like Mia working for them, and any baby/family that has Mia involved with their care is lucky. I feel like I cannot put into words how much of an impact she has had on all of us or how incredible she is, all I can say is truly one very special and an amazing nurse/person!
Note: This is Mia's 2nd DAISY Award!
