When it was decided that I would have a C-section instead of a VBAC with my rainbow baby, Meredith Stefan held my hand and talked to me. She asked me about my baby, which we were keeping the gender a surprise, but I told her the two names we were thinking of. She was by my side during the surgery, despite having to also write the notes for the surgery. When my daughter was pulled out and started crying, she instantly looked at me and told me she was okay, that my baby had made it this time. She talked directly to me the whole time. And when they had to take her for vitals, Meredith told me the best path to take so I could still see my baby. She talked to me the whole time, telling me that she was proud of me and that I was strong, and I did it. And when the surgery was done and I was taken back to the labor room to await my room assignment, she brought in the bassinet for my baby that she and another nurse had decorated with the name I told her, and the borders were rainbow. She knew exactly what to do so I would be okay, not just physically but mentally too.
