She reassured my sister, patiently and calmly informed and educated the family, and encouraged our participation to allow us to help whenever appropriate.
I would like to nominate Mercedes Garcia for a Daisy Award because of her exceptional compassion and dedication to her patients. Through it all, Mercedes is there, working tirelessly and diligently to help her patients and colleagues understand issues and ramifications. She explains things sometimes more than once, holding a patient's hand until it is understood. Of utmost importance is her ability to make a comfortable environment for all those around her. Mercedes consistently demonstrates genuine care and empathy, making a significant positive impact on the lives of her patients, which is one of the many reasons she continually chooses to precept new nurses. She is truly irreplaceable and an inspiration to our nursing team.

My sister was admitted. We received a call in the middle of the night about her deteriorating condition and proceeded to the hospital at 1 am, very concerned. She was moved to another unit where Mercedes was her nurse over the next few hours. I watched Mercedes manage her unstable BP and continuous bleeding. She reassured my sister, patiently and calmly informed and educated the family, and encouraged our participation to allow us to help whenever appropriate. She calmly navigated a very stressful situation with calm professionalism that I have never seen in a nurse before. She managed multiple pressors, transfusions, O2 requirements, and instructed others on order entry all autonomously and calmly despite the critical situation. So grateful for her efforts. Despite the critical status, we knew everything possible was being done in the very best way possible. She instilled confidence in the family, and we are so grateful - She is outstanding.

Mercedes was very patient during my difficult time at the hospital. She explained everything going on with me and my illness, as well as my recovery. She talked me through some emotional moments I had about missing my family. She was very attentive to my needs and never made me feel helpless. She pushed me to try things on my own. One night, she helped me gain the confidence to walk. All in all, Mercedes was an exceptional nurse, and she was with me every step of the way from sickness to recovery.
