While reading the criteria for the DAISY Award, I immediately thought of a nurse who is very deserving due to the positive energy she brings to her job each day.  This RN has many duties on her plate as a Same Day Surgery Nurse.  She greets patients with a smile when she is preparing them for surgery, starting at 6 AM.  She is empathetic and caring with them and establishes a positive rapport.  She is open to questions and answers them promptly as she is preparing the patients for their impending surgery.  She has excellent clinical skills and confidence when starting IVs, drawing blood, doing EKGs, etc.  She displays a caring attitude, takes ownership of her patients, and swiftly handles issues.

She also has a perceptive and accepting attitude to assist other nurses, doctors, and anesthesia providers with the various issues they may need assistance with.  If any of these various professionals approach needing assistance, she does not hesitate to offer her assistance with a caring attitude.  She never displays an attitude that she is too busy to help.  Although I know she has many duties, she takes time to stop what she is doing and offers her assistance.

This nurse is a role model for many in exemplifying the mission, vision, and values of Nacogdoches Medical Center.  She maintains and elevates the standard of her profession as a nurse!  She devotes herself to the welfare of those committed to her care!

She connects with her patients and their families from the moment they come in the door and continues this relationship until they leave her department, giving them the mindset they need to continue to heal.
