She validated my feelings, encouraged me to prioritize my rest and mental health, and shared some of her postpartum experience, which was so special to me.
As a first-time mom recovering from an emergency c-section, I was in need of a LOT of support. Between needing pain meds on a schedule, having labs drawn, coordinating paperwork for my son’s birth certificate, and feeding my newborn son every two hours, I needed someone I could count on who was super on top of it. Melissa was the perfect nurse for me. She handled every detail with care. She managed expectations incredibly well, letting me know what would be happening and when, and sticking to the commitments she made to me while juggling multiple patients. I remember feeling such a sense of relief every time she entered the room. She not only responded to my requests but also anticipated my needs, keeping my water refilled so I’d stay hydrated, and even hanging a “do not disturb” sign on my door so I could get much-needed rest. Every shift change, she took the time to do a warm handoff with the next nurse, describing the specifics of my plan of care and ensuring continuity of care. She also took extra time to comfort me when I became distressed, as a freshly postpartum mother inevitably does! She validated my feelings, encouraged me to prioritize my rest and mental health, and shared some of her postpartum experience, which was so special to me. During my five days in the hospital, I had her for three days in a row, which was the biggest blessing I could have asked for. I feel so fortunate to have experienced her expert and compassionate care.
