They say, “Nurses are angels in scrubs!” I truly believe this to be true. My daughter became extremely ill within hours, and we rushed her to the ER. Within minutes, our active, healthy, beautiful girl was hooked up to oxygen flow, heart meds, countless antibiotics, BP meds, IVs, etc., and being sent to the PICU. Once arriving, Melissa worked her entire shift tirelessly caring for her. We watched her work around the clock connecting this machine and that machine. Lunch or restroom break… what’s that? Thank goodness she was in good hands; we were exhausted just watching. Melissa was able to care for our daughter a few shifts while she was in PICU before graduating to the regular pediatric floor. Melissa was patient, calm and explained anything we needed to know or asked about. Melissa also helped me to see that I had done the very best for my daughter when I had a moment of “mom guilt”. Melissa made sure to build a relationship with our daughter. They talked together, giggled, and worked as a team in the PICU. She even gave her her “first tattoo”. When we were released to the general peds floor, Melissa came to visit and check on her as well. I truly believe she was placed there that day for a reason. Melissa is a devoted, selfless, passionate nurse. We are forever grateful and love her forever.
