Ms. Sargent, it is hard to know where to start. Melissa has taken on a role in the ED APU that ensures our patients with behavioral health concerns are treated fairly, without bias, and as human beings. She has stepped up, forged ahead, created new roads, and does it all with the spirit of collaboration. From one team member, “She is very dedicated to improving the care of psych patients in the ED. She has often been available to assist in the discharges of challenging long stay patients to ensure a successful discharge/transition.”

From our attending psychiatrist, “Ms. Sargent is the type of nurse who never shrinks in times of difficulty, never dodges a challenge, and never takes "no" for an answer when it comes to advocating for her patients. She has transformed herself from an amazing emergency room nurse into an amazing emergency room nurse leader who is also the face of caring for those with behavioral health needs. In her role as leader of the emergency room psychiatric counsel, Ms. Sargent has shown herself to be a dedicated, strong yet humble, and organized leader. She has done this while also remaining a steadfast and important presence as a clinical nurse leader and a model for her peers and colleagues. She is collaborative, as well as innovative in her approach-always looking to learn more and do better. I am thankful every day I get to work with her, and I am repeatedly humbled by her compassion, dedication, and leadership.”
