Our dad was a patient at Mercy after experiencing stroke-like symptoms and being transported by EMS. During a very difficult and emotional time, Melissa transformed his stay.

She kept him moving, encouraged him to participate in his care, and gave him space to grieve the loss of independence that came with his stroke. Before meeting Melissa, Dad was struggling emotionally and seemed to have little hope. After working with her, he began to believe in his recovery and wanted to put in the effort to get better.

Melissa truly changed the course of Dad’s recovery, and that is something we were not sure anyone could do. Her knowledge and skills are evident, and she has a way about her that brings comfort and care while also being steady and encouraging.

She is clearly a nurse who goes above and beyond to give patients what they need for a successful recovery.
