She worked around the unit’s routines and policies with empathy and professionalism, ensuring a safe and supportive environment where mother and baby could be together.
I would like to nominate Charge Nurse, Mindi, for the DAISY Award in recognition of her extraordinary compassion, generosity, and patient-centered care during a time of deep emotional vulnerability for my sister-in-law and our entire family. Following a traumatic experience shortly after her C-section, my sister-in-law was readmitted to the hospital, separating her from her newborn baby just days after arriving home. As a fellow nurse, I understand the emotional toll that such a situation can take—not only on the patient but on the family. Mindi, however, went far beyond what was expected.
Recognizing the profound importance of maternal-infant bonding, Mindi made it possible for my sister-in-law to spend precious time with her baby during her hospital stay. She worked around the unit’s routines and policies with empathy and professionalism, ensuring a safe and supportive environment where mother and baby could be together. This small act of kindness had a monumental emotional impact during an already difficult time.
What truly touched us and speaks volumes about Mindi’s character was the selfless offer of her unused baby formula. As a breastfeeding mother herself, she had formula she wasn't using—and she chose to gift it to our family without hesitation. That simple gesture provided comfort and relief at a time when we were overwhelmed and unsure of what lay ahead.
Mindi didn’t just care for her patient clinically—she cared for her as a mother, a woman in distress, and a human being. Her love, dedication, and presence created a space of healing when it was most needed. As a nurse myself, I was deeply moved by her grace and advocacy. She embodies the spirit of the DAISY Award and is a true example of what nursing is all about.
