September 2026 Honoree
Melinda Fields, BSN
I would like to express my deepest gratitude and heartfelt appreciation for one of your nurses, Melinda Fields, who cared for my 86-year-old father during his final days at the VA Living Community Center. There are not enough words to describe the compassion, kindness, and genuine love that Melinda showed not only to my father but to our entire family. She went far beyond what anyone could expect from a healthcare professional. During one of the most difficult times in our lives, she brought us comfort, peace, and reassurance.
One gesture that will remain with us forever was when Melinda brought in a device that played the soothing sounds of a gentle creek. That simple act transformed the room into a peaceful place, providing comfort to my father and helping our family find moments of calm as we sat beside him. It was a beautiful expression of her thoughtfulness and the extraordinary level of care she gives.
Melinda is truly an angel and a blessing to every veteran and every family fortunate enough to cross her path. God blessed our family by placing her in our lives during such a sacred and difficult time. Her kindness, empathy, and unwavering dedication reminded us that caring for someone at the end of life is not just about medicine; it is about dignity, love, and humanity. The VA is incredibly fortunate to have someone like Melinda Fields serving our nation's veterans. There could be no greater gift than having compassionate caregivers like her beside those who served our country in their final days. She honors our veterans in a way that cannot be measured, and for that, our family will be forever grateful.
We hope she receives the recognition she so richly deserves, because people like her make an immeasurable difference in the lives of patients and families every single day. No amount of thanks can fully express how much Melinda meant to us or how deeply she touched our hearts. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you, Melinda, for your extraordinary compassion, your gentle spirit, and your loving care. We will never forget what you did for our father and for our family. May God continue to bless you as you have blessed so many others.
