I am honored to nominate my co-worker, Meko Stafford, for the DAISY Award.  She is, without a doubt, the biggest team player in our unit. No matter how hectic her day may be, she always finds time to go above and beyond for her co-workers, students, and patients.  Whether she is managing her own responsibilities or assisting others, she does it with a smile on her face and an incredibly positive attitude.

She is the first to step up when someone needs help!  Her willingness to assist even in the busiest of moments is truly inspiring.  She is a shining example of what it means to be a team player, consistently putting the needs of others first.  Her hard work, dedication, and deep knowledge of nursing set a high standard for all of us. 

If I were to share a specific example of her dedication to her patients and team, this nomination would be 10 pages long! However, I would like to share one story that captures her as a nurse and colleague. One evening, while working in our Baker Act Unit, in the heart of the ED, I was incredibly overwhelmed! I assumed care of two critical psych patients within minutes of each other, one of whom had significant medical issues. Meko was working in the triage at the time and heard the situation unfold over the radio. Without hesitation, she rushed all the way from triage to my section.  Meko saw my workload and immediately stepped in to help. Thanks to her quick thinking and skilled assistance, we were able to stabilize both patients. Throughout the rest of the night, Meko continued to check on me, always stopping what she was doing to offer a tip, a quick lesson, and even just to check on my mental health.  Meko's support that evening, saved the night and it was just one example of the countless ways she shows up for her team and her patients.

I aspire to be as wonderful, hard-working, and knowledgeable of an ED nurse as Meko is, one day!  Meko is truly deserving of the DAISY Award, and I feel so fortunate to work alongside her.
