She held my leg in her arms for several minutes because it brought me relief. She even said, “I’ll just stay here and hold it for the next 12 hours of my shift if you need.”
I was brought in after a traumatic fall at home to the ER with 3 broken bones in my leg that were severe. After having it reduced and splinted, I was in my ER room for several hours. Meds were provided for pain along with ice for the discomfort, however, with 3 breaks, it was crucial to have my leg in a certain position for comfort. 2 CNAs tried to help; however, we were struggling. Megan Ward (who usually works in the NICU but was down helping in the ER that night) came to the rescue to assist with positioning. She was the most patient nurse I’ve ever encountered. She held my leg in her arms for several minutes because it brought me relief. She even said, “I’ll just stay here and hold it for the next 12 hours of my shift if you need.” Later, when I was moved to the med surg floor, the nurses and CNAs were having a hard time getting me in a comfortable position. I asked if they could please call Megan up from the ER to help. She came up and held my leg again and showed the CNAs how we positioned it last time. Thank you so much for helping the pain, even though it was excruciating, you still helped bring me some relief and I won’t forget that.
