In our most vulnerable hours, Megan's extraordinary nursing care provided a foundation of dignity and respect that allowed our mother to pass peacefully and gave us strength during an unimaginably difficult time.
It is with profound gratitude that we nominate Nurse Megan Trella for the DAISY Award for extraordinary nursing care. Our mother was admitted to the Issaquah ICU during what would become the final hours of her life. During this incredibly difficult time, Megan demonstrated exceptional compassion, attentiveness, and professionalism that brought comfort not only to our mother but to our family as well. From the moment Megan began her shift, she was keenly attentive to our mother's needs. When our mother mentioned she was experiencing back pain, Megan responded immediately, providing a pillow to make her more comfortable. This may seem like a small gesture, but it reflected Megan's genuine concern for our mother's dignity and comfort during a critical time.
As our mother's condition worsened, Megan checked on her frequently, monitoring her closely while also taking time to communicate with us about what was happening. She made sure we understood the situation while maintaining a calming presence throughout. When it became clear that we would need to stay overnight in the ICU, Megan went above and beyond by bringing us pillows, sheets, and blankets to make our vigil more bearable. This thoughtfulness extended beyond her medical duties and showed her holistic approach to patient and family care. When our mother passed away at approximately 2:30 AM, Megan handled this difficult moment with remarkable grace and empathy. She offered us privacy while remaining available, helped us contact the funeral home, and guided us through those initial moments of grief with sensitivity and respect.
What stood out most about Megan's care was her ability to balance professional medical attention with genuine human compassion. She seemed to intuitively understand when we needed information, when we needed space, and when we simply needed kindness.
