Mckinnah was our nurse from Monday through Tuesday, early evening. She was encouraging. During this short span of time, she was a great encourager with a caring and personable spirit. She shared how she had helped her grandfather when he also had a chest tube inserted, and she had provided in-home care.
I was impressed with how she put her career goals on hold to minister to his physical needs. Mcknnah's cheerful attitude was always reflected by a beautiful smile and lovely, optimistic countenance. For my husband, Monday was, as he stated, "The lowest I've felt since the day my dad died," which happened in 1965. Following his open-heart surgery at Kettering Main Hospital, he's had one setback after another, and this lung collapse, chest tube episode put him over the top. This is where Mckinnah's sparkling countenance and smile brought a ray of hope to what seemed like a hopeless situation.
In addition to all of this, Mckinnah exuded great skill and competence for all that had to be done. It seemed to me that she had been in the field of nursing for a long time, so I asked her about her career path. When she told me that she was hired in January to work at Sycamore, I was surprised in a sense because I would have thought she had many years of experience. She's an eager learner!
