McKenzie just has that something extra in regards to compassion and kindness ingrained in her being, something that cannot be faked or taught.
McKenzie really, genuinely cares about people--one of the most meaningful attributes of an amazing nurse. I'd been here about a week and had a bunch of tests done and for two to three days after waiting for one of the specialists to explain the results to me and or the next step in my road to recovery, she took the time to sit with me and read through the doctor's notes in the chart.

She translated everything into terms I could understand. She explained what they meant as well as the reasoning behind the doctor's decisions for my care plan, since they never came to talk with me. I thought this was beyond compassionate! I know nurses are stretched thin with their time, and I cannot express my appreciation and gratitude enough; not to mention, of course, she always had a smile on her face and wanted to be sure I was comfortable and had everything I needed. She was so attentive and just seemed to always go above and beyond!

She wanted to make sure I fully understood all of the test results and doctor's notes, and assured me that if I had any questions she couldn't answer, that we'd "figure it out together." I've had other nurses who seem to just go through the motions of taking vital signs and charting everything, but McKenzie just has that something extra in regards to compassion and kindness ingrained in her being, something that cannot be faked or taught.

She always cheered me on and always had the perfect cup of coffee for me. I really hope she is recognized for her quality of caregiving, the significance of her positive and cheerful attitude, and just the magnitude of her persona. Being hospitalized is never fun, but she made the time I was with her on shift enjoyable! Thank you, McKenzie!
