She knew me, she listened to me, and gave me great comfort in an extremely trying time.
McKenzie truly cares about her patients. She listens with intent and shows great empathy. Every time I was in the hospital, it was unexpected. I was scared and in pain. She wouldn't let me stay in pain. She would personally come check on me multiple times and could tell how I felt just by looking at me.
The second time I was admitted, I had an infectious fluid all over my abdomen and pelvic area. When I got to my room, she looked at my wound and started cleaning me up. She didn't want the infection to spread to other places. I felt completely safe and comfortable with her. I trust her. She was so kind and thoughtful, always.
The 3rd time I was admitted was a complete shock for me. McKenzie happened to come in my first night to help my nurse with something. She asked me what was going on. I explained and told her it was okay. She held my hand, looked at me, and said, No, it's not. She knew what I had been through, and she hated that I was back. She knew me, she listened to me, and gave me great comfort in an extremely trying time. Some Healthcare workers come in, do their job, and leave, but not McKenzie. She comes in, looks you in the eye, and truly hears you. McKenzie is one of the kindest people I've ever met. She was meant to be a nurse, and in my book, she's the very best!
I felt safe. I felt like she had my best interests at heart. I was horrible at pushing the nurse button if I needed something. I was always in pain but would try to wait it out. She would bring me meds because she knew I'd need them and wouldn't ask. She held my hand and made me face the truth of the situation. She made me realize that it's okay to not be okay, and she'd be by my side.
