McKenzie took amazing care of my two-year-old son throughout treatment. What makes her special is that she is so much fun! Treatment can be very dark and serious, but she helped us continue to make positive memories, smile, and laugh whenever we were with her. A specific memory that comes to mind showcasing her creativity was when she printed off pictures of ducks to hide around the halls. She found a bike from PT and a nerf gun, setting up his very own duck hunting course. This was a huge hit for our son. McKenzie remembered he had his own duck calls at home, and that was all it took for her to set up something that was not only very fun but also targeted his fine motor and gross motor skills during a time when he really needed that. McKenzie always has fun earrings and an impressive Crocs collection. She brought my husband and me Starbucks every month when we came in, making us feel special, too. Hearing McKenzie’s name when we were flying in by helicopter for a serious infection brought me a huge sigh of relief and lowered my anxiety immensely. It is hard for me to believe anything bad could happen when you have McKenzie as your child’s nurse! She is exceptional! My son loves “Kenzie” and I know we will miss her very much!
