My brother was admitted to the ICU and stayed there for almost a month. Over time, he became somewhat aggressive. During our visits, he couldn’t hear or speak, could only see with one eye, and was fed through a feeding tube. Eventually, the tube had to be removed due to infections. He could only communicate through gestures—unable to speak or express himself—and had great difficulty interacting with others.

Although ICU rules don’t normally allow patient companions, Mayada understood my brother’s condition and went out of her way to help us. She allowed us to accompany him, and eventually, she even permitted my mother to stay with him and come whenever she needed to. My brother’s situation was extremely difficult.

At one point, because his medical file had been closed, we were unable to proceed with the operation he needed. But Mayada stepped in and helped us through the process. Thanks to God, and then to her efforts, the operation was successfully done.
