Matt is truly an extraordinary nurse who has consistently demonstrated commitment to not only excelling in his medical duties but also routinely going above and beyond in delivering "whole" patient care. I want to point out a recent episode where he demonstrated this commitment. We had a patient who had an unanticipated outcome after a routine outpatient surgical procedure. I was called to evaluate and assist with this patient, who ultimately required emergency surgery. At first, the family was understandably in shock and very apprehensive. Matt took it upon himself not only to deliver excellent patient care but to gain additional rapport with the patient's family by going the extra mile in connecting with them. He expertly comforted them by walking them through the process, comforting them and updating them while in the waiting area, and personally directing nursing care and transporting the patient to the ICU afterwards. By the morning of the first postoperative day, I ran into Matt while rounding on the patient, and he had come to check on her and participate in nursing rounds. By this time, the family member and the patient's demeanor had completely changed. They had completely regained confidence in their care team as they realized how truly invested and dedicated their care providers were. A large part of this was Matt's commitment to whole patient care, not only in the PACU but beyond. His willingness to not only provide excellent nursing care but to go the extra mile as a compassionate provider. This is only one example of many of Matt's true dedication to his craft, and he represents the epitome of what it means to be a nurse with AdventHealth.
