Being there was not a situation I wanted to be in, but Matt put me at ease, or at least as much as I could be.
I was seen at the Wright Patterson AFB Emergency Department. I am a new mom, so even stepping foot into an emergency department riddled me with anxiety. Matt completely put me at ease as my nurse. He listened to my concerns and never left my side. It was a scary situation having septic level blood work and other symptoms. He held my hand as it took almost 30 minutes to find my veins for 2 IV lines due to dehydration. He built rapport and made me feel like a family member, sharing stories with me, such as his news that he is going to be a grandfather.
I repeatedly told the staff how scared I was and that although I was friendly, bubbly, and communicating frequently, I felt very sick and was very scared. Matt never dismissed my concerns and made sure to tell me, "We will give you the strongest antibiotics to kick whatever infection this out." Being there was not a situation I wanted to be in, but Matt put me at ease, or at least as much as I could be. He even told me how late he would be there that night as I was sent to admissions to be admitted to the hospital. I hope to never encounter this situation again, but I know that with staff like Matt at the Wright Patt emergency department, I am in amazing hands.
