I would like to nominate Marylou in PACU for the DAISY Award for the outstanding care and compassion she provided to my mother following her recent knee replacement surgery. From the moment I arrived in the PACU, her warm smile and positive energy immediately put me at ease. My mother had been in recovery for several hours, and seeing Marylou’s calm confidence and cheerful spirit reassured me that she was in excellent hands.

Just one week before surgery, my mother had celebrated her 83rd birthday surrounded by her children and grandchildren. She is an active woman who has worked her entire life and loves to stay busy. This second knee replacement was especially meaningful, as it gave her hope of returning to the things she loves most: cooking, dancing, and spending time with family. When I shared this with Marylou, she instantly became my mother’s biggest cheerleader. She offered encouragement and compassion every step of the way, explaining in detail what was happening, what to expect in the hours ahead, and how to prepare for recovery at home. Her kindness and attentiveness brought comfort and clarity during an anxious time.

What touched me most was the sweet note she left for my mother that read: “The dance floor is waiting for you! Have a speedy recovery.” Sincerely, Marylou.
