I learned that Mary Ruth had taken her phone with her while on the meal break in case one of the family members called.
Mary Ruth was one of the nurses caring for my sister-in-law, who was transferred to St. Joseph's after a bad fall. I'm sad to say that my sister-in-law was subsequently declared brain-dead. But when she was first brought in, several family members were understandably very concerned. Her daughter, stepsister, and I all separately called to get updates. I can't speak highly enough of the way Mary Ruth handled the situation.
In spite of a heavy workload, she took the time and had the compassion to speak to each of us individually, giving detailed updates of the patient's status. She explained to me all of the brain activity tests that they were doing. This conversation with me was held while she was on a meal break! I learned that she had taken her phone with her while on the meal break in case one of the family members called. This demonstrates compassion beyond the level of just professionalism. This kind of caring about people should make her a role model. Mary Ruth is clearly a significant asset to St Joseph's Hospital.
