It is with the highest respect and gratitude that I nominate Commander Mary Reyna, Island District Senior Nursing Officer, for the DAISY Nurse Leader Award. Her visionary leadership, steadfast commitment to excellence, and deep compassion for both patients and staff embody the very spirit of this honor. As the Senior Nursing Officer, CDR Reyna has been a driving force behind the delivery of safe, high-quality, and mission-ready nursing care across NAS North Island and the broader district. She leads with a clear sense of purpose and a servant’s heart, ensuring that every Sailor, nurse, corpsman, and staff member under her guidance feels empowered, supported, and valued. CDR Reyna is the kind of leader who inspires confidence and trust. She advocates fiercely for her team, fosters professional growth, and consistently makes herself available, no matter how full her schedule. She is visible, approachable, and deeply invested in the well-being of those she leads. Her presence brings stability and confidence to the command, especially during high-pressure situations or operational surges. A recent example of her exceptional leadership was during the rapid execution of district-wide readiness initiatives. Amid evolving requirements and limited resources, CDR Reyna coordinated cross-clinic collaboration, ensured all nursing teams had what they needed, and personally checked in on front-line staff to make sure morale stayed high. Her ability to manage complex logistics while still maintaining a personal connection with her team is a rare and admirable quality. She leads not for recognition, but out of a genuine commitment to care, both for her patients and for the Sailors and civilians who deliver that care every day. Under her leadership, the nursing culture across the district has grown stronger, more resilient, and more united in purpose. CDR Mary Reyna exemplifies what it means to be a DAISY Nurse Leader. Her impact reaches far beyond her title, touching the lives of every person she serves and leads. She is more than deserving of this award.
