A Jefferson patient's family member nominated Mary, she wrote, "Mary is truly an extraordinary nurse, case manager, and person. Last December, shortly before the holidays, my mother suffered a serious spinal injury and was hospitalized for several weeks at Jefferson. She underwent two separate surgeries and was in Intensive Care for some time. Her recovery was slow and challenging. I am happy to report that she is making good progress.

"Mary made this difficult and scary time bearable for my Mom, and for all of us who were so worried about her. She helped us to understand what was going on and she was so caring and empathetic. She was a wonderful "face" for Jefferson. She offered to be available to us at any time, even on the weekends and her vacation days. Simply put, she was a delight.

She also played a big role in helping us to plan for the steps after my Mom's discharge -- particularly her move to Magee Rehabilitation Hospital. Because of Mary, a very difficult, stressful, and scary time was made bearable. She is an excellent nurse and a wonderful person.

"I hope that Jefferson will honor Mary with this wonderful award. I can't imagine that anyone would be better qualified or more deserving. On behalf of my Mom, and my entire family, I can't express my gratitude enough to Mary."

In front of the patient and family who nominated her, her colleagues, daughter, and members of nursing and hospital administration, Mary was recognized for the incredible meaningful difference she makes in the lives of patients and families. Mary was overwhelmed with the recognition.
