She amazes me every day with her compassion—she never seems to run out of it or be too tired to help someone else.
Mary McCoy has been an RN at ANW for almost 30 years! After that amount of time, some nurses may feel burned out, but not Mary. Mary comes to work every day with a positive attitude and a willingness to make a difference in someone’s life. Whether she is looking out for the spine surgeons, peers, or patients, they always give 100%. She is frequently requested as staff for difficult or special cases, and she is an obvious go-to for anything union-related. You can easily see how much she cares about all aspects of her job at ANW through her work ethic.
While I think they deserve a DAISY Award 1000% over and over, there was a recent circumstance that prompted me to write this specific nomination. A couple of hours into a shift, Mary found one of our peers experiencing concerning cardiac symptoms. Without hesitation, Mary encouraged this person to go to the emergency department to be seen. When this person was unsure about this suggestion, Mary got permission to accompany them up to the ED. She waited with them until they were seen and then came back down to the OR to assist in the crazy day we were experiencing.
What I thought was extraordinarily kind was how she went and visited our peer on the floor before leaving for the day. She amazes me every day with her compassion—she never seems to run out of it or be too tired to help someone else. The best part is that when you are with Mary, you are guaranteed to laugh... A LOT! She is the kind of nurse I attempt to be every day and wish to be at the end of my career, which is why I am nominating her for the DAISY Award. I hope you will smile while reading this and agree with me.
