She immediately started to clear my airway and instruct the other nurses what to do. She had the nurses put on an oxygen monitor and oxygen as another nurse was performing the Heimlich maneuver on me.
First off, the care my husband received during the days with this RN was exceptional. She made sure he was taken care of and even was kind enough to ask my daughter and I about our needs during the day. Very professional, kind, and caring. At shift change, she approached us, wanting to make sure my husband was all set up for the night before his procedure. We said our goodbyes and thanked her for her awesome care. She was finishing up outside the room. I started to eat my dinner, a hard-boiled egg, and swallowed wrong and was choking. My daughter jumped up and yelled that I was choking, and this RN rushed into the room along with other nurses. She immediately started to clear my airway and instruct the other nurses what to do. She had the nurses put on an oxygen monitor and oxygen as another nurse was performing the Heimlich maneuver on me. After that didn’t help, she dug the food out of my mouth and throat. I still couldn’t breathe as my asthma had started. She sat calmly in front of me, getting me to breathe slowly in and out, with her to help calm me down. After that, she stayed a bit to make sure I was okay. Without her expertise and taking charge of the situation, I feel I would have died. She is definitely my hero. The next day, she made a special effort to come and check on me, and that kind of caring is exceptional. You can’t reach those skills; they are built in.
