Mary recognized the early signs of sepsis and saved this patient's life.
A post-op urology patient in PACU was recovering when he began to decompensate. This was an outpatient procedure, and the patient would be discharged home. Mary monitored this patient closely and for a more extended period than usual in recovery to ensure his blood pressure was normal before being sent home. She had the doctors order vasopressors because his blood pressure continued to drop. Mary recognized the early signs of sepsis and saved this patient's life. If Mary had not kept this patient in the PACU for as long as she did and assessed/monitored him so closely, this patient most likely would've died shortly after being discharged home, as he lives alone and was not symptomatic until hours later.
