My grandbaby needed extra breathing support because her lungs were premature. So, we had a very long and stressful few days, tons of tears, and worry. Mary Beth was assigned to my grandbaby for a couple of days. She was amazing!
Some nurses do their jobs, but some really do it with heart and compassion. She always made sure we were good. She always made sure that we understood everything going on. She tried so hard to keep us uplifted in spirit about her and her outcome. She spoke to us like we were her friends or even family. She didn’t treat us like nurse/patient family. She has done more. She made us feel really special and that she truly cared.
After two days, she was able to have a couple of days off work. At the end of her day with us, she let us know she wouldn’t be back for a few days and that she probably wouldn't see us again before she was able to come home. Before we left, my daughter had gotten so overwhelmed that she just burst into tears. Mary Beth, without hesitation, just grabbed her and hugged her. She just let her know it was ok to cry and be scared, but also know that the baby was in good hands and was growing stronger every day.
She gave us more than nursing abilities; she gave us hope and strength to leave there and not be so scared for my grandbaby. Then, even after all of that, we went in a day or two later to see and spend time with her, and we were approached by not one but two different nurses who told us that Mary Beth had left a message with them to tell us that it was an honor to take care of her and she wished us all the very best. That meant the world to us.
This is not just a “nurse from the NICU.” This is an angel who cares for her patients and families with her whole heart! This is a woman who brings hope to us as a family, watching our little one go through very tough battles. She is truly amazing, and we will never forget her and the acts of love she showed us. She feels honored to take care of our baby, but she doesn’t know we were the lucky ones! We had the honor to meet and come to love the most wonderful nurse we could ever hope for.
Thank you, Mary Beth! You will always be a part of our journey, our lives, and our family!
