Maritza James consistently demonstrates extraordinary care, compassion, and empathy in her nursing practice. One patient in particular, who has complex medical issues and has been readmitted to our unit multiple times, shared how much Maritza has meant to her throughout her difficult journey. This patient had become understandably frustrated with her diagnosis, feeling overwhelmed during previous hospital stays. Maritza really listened to the patient’s concerns, validated her emotions, and reassured her that she was not alone. Maritza told the patient, “You’re like family to me, and I will help you get the answers you deserve.”

That level of commitment went far beyond clinical duties; it was deeply human. What sets Maritza apart is her remarkable ability to make patients feel seen, heard, and cared for. She brings a calming presence to the room, and her qualities of compassion, empathy, patience, and attentive listening shine in every interaction. She not only supports her patients medically but also emotionally, building trust and restoring hope during some of their most vulnerable moments.

Maritza has made a big impact on our patients, our team, and our unit culture. She truly embodies the highest standards of nursing and is deeply appreciated for her dedication and heart.

Maritza took care of our family member and provided wonderful care. You can tell that she truly cares for her patients and reflects that in the way she delivers care. She checked in on us throughout her shift and before leaving for the day, ensuring that our father was comfortable and that his needs were met. She even stopped in to say hello the next time she was working, even though he was not her patient that day. If he is ever hospitalized again, we hope to have Maritza as his nurse.
