One of the nurses caring for my mother introduced herself as Markaye. I found Markaye to be very informative, efficient, and quite compassionate. I am not a fan of what I like to refer to as “phony” compassion or false, cheeriness, speaking in baby tones, etc. Nurse Markaye treated my mother with respect and compassion. She actively listened to my concerns without being dismissive or haughty. Nurse Markaye was also quite informative and was not intimidated at all when I shared my understanding of my mother’s condition. She seemed pleased to add to my knowledge, adding that the more the patient and patient’s family know about the condition and care, the better it is for the patient. Markaye encouraged my participation in my mother’s care and for that, I am greatly appreciative. She optimizes for me that standard of professionalism for this occupation.
