Mark made us feel like he was there for our family and our family only.
Sometimes I like to believe an empath can serve another. I also believe that as an empath, you can serve when someone has gone through a lot or is going through a lot. All without talking or not talking much. In a hospital full of amazing, caring people, Mark stood out. Mark was willing to share his past professions as well as some life circumstances. Mark shared that he was in the military, then found faith, worked for the church, and now he is a nurse. I think in a time where it’s very easy to feel horrible about everything because everything felt hard, Mark sharing his hard past and remaining so kind reminded me to remain humble & strong. Mark also shared that he and his wife do not have children yet, so caring for my child gives him a sense of fulfillment. Mark sharing this touched me. In a time when my family felt so guilty about the lack of time spent with our baby, our situation was able to give someone else fulfillment. Overall, Mark being willing to go beyond surface-level, small talk conversation made my heart happy in a world where we don’t make eye contact anymore. Mark must be an empath because when I was red in the face, holding my screaming 18-month-old while trying to visit my sick newborn. Mark saw me struggling. He popped his head in our room and said, “Hey, would you like me to take her for a walk?” I felt so bad to say yes. But Mark got her socks to walk her around, came back with toys & a popsicle, almost like he was her grandpa. Mark also has a very nice tone. It’s quiet and caring. Finally, Mark almost always left our room by saying thank you. Mark made us feel like he was there for our family and our family only. Mark’s tone & actions let us know he really cared.
