I will never forget Miraya and will certainly include her as I tell my story about this event. There is nothing like having your fears relieved in a hospital when you don't know what to expect.
This nurse is an outstanding example of leadership and organization displayed by her detailed and compassionate nursing practices. I arrived in the Emergency Department with severe pain in my abdomen and center of my back. I was quickly taken to triage and then to an ED room. I was quickly sent from there for a cat scan, which determined the problem was my gall bladder. It needed to be removed. I was immediately taken to the 3rd floor, where Miraya was assigned as my nurse. From the moment I encountered her, it was obvious she truly cared about me. She was very encouraging and concerned for my well-being. She settled me into my room and immediately sprang into action. She addressed my pain first, as she had determined this was my utmost concern, and I needed relief. After the pain medication, I began to feel nauseous. As I began to relieve this feeling by vomiting profusely, Miraya stayed with me, even though it was time for shift change. I was profusely sweating, and she brought me cool washcloths. It then became apparent to me how very special this nurse is. She saw me not just as a patient, but as a human being in need of comfort.
Throughout my visit, she proved to me her worth to this community and your organization. She was never unavailable to assist or answer my myriad questions regarding my care. And, she had the answers. Everything she told me came to light and made me feel so much more comfortable than I had been in hospitals in the past. I cannot stress how valuable this nurse, and her expertise is to your organization.
Miraya was also my nurse for two other days. I can't express how comfortable this made me feel at one of my most vulnerable points. She took care of my every need with care and professionalism. What amazes me is (and I know I assume this) that she could provide this level of care to me and to the OTHER patients she was responsible for also. When I began to do what all patients eventually do and commiserate for my discharge, she eventually made this feeling subside by again explaining in detail the procedures necessary for discharge and how they would proceed. She even came to celebrate with me when I received word of my discharge.
People often say that people will forget what you said and did, but they will never forget how you made them feel. That is the truth. I will never forget Miraya and will certainly include her as I tell my story about this event. There is nothing like having your fears relieved in a hospital when you don't know what to expect. Miraya has the very special skill of letting you know she sees you as a human being suffering, and with no control over your situation. Just as a confirmation of my observations, I offer this: My wife, who was by my side almost every minute of my experience, is a nurse of 27 years. She has worked in Shock Trauma, ICU, Med/Surg, PACU, and is currently a professor. She, admittedly, has extremely high standards where nursing is concerned. She was highly impressed with all of Miraya's skills and determination in accomplishing her duties for me. I sincerely hope I have done my experience with Miraya justice by this testimony as to how pleased I was with her performance. She is a true DAISY Nurse.
