She said that she hopes to be like Marissa when she grows up.
Marissa always goes above and beyond for her patients. Recently, we shared two patients who both told me how incredible she is. One of the patients had Marissa as her nurse during a particularly hard day. To cheer her up while she was in pain, Marissa showed her pictures of her dog, Winnie. For the entire day that I had this patient, she kept asking me where Winnie’s mom was and reminding me that Winnie’s mom was her favorite nurse. Before I discharged her, mom wanted to be sure that I passed on that Marissa made such an impact on her daughter’s recovery. A couple of days later, we had a sassy teenager who was going through a rough time. Marissa got her to open up one night by talking to her about school, makeup, and theater. She inspired her to want to work harder with PT to get back to her baseline. When visiting this patient on the floor, she told me that Marissa played a huge role in making the hardest time in her life a little easier. She said that she hopes to be like Marissa when she grows up. So do I. These are just two of many lives that Marissa has changed in her time at CHONY. She upholds the respect credo and is a role model to so many nurses on our unit as a preceptor, charge nurse, and bedside RN. It’s nurses like her that make CHONY so special and help to inspire staff to do good. I feel lucky to know her and to be inspired by her every day.
