It is difficult to fully capture the impact Marina Dettori has on the nurses she teaches, mentors, and supports every day, but her dedication to nursing education and to the people she guides is extraordinary.
Marina brings passion, compassion, and authenticity to every educational experience she leads. She has a remarkable ability to make complex clinical topics understandable while also helping nurses see the deeper purpose behind the work we do. More importantly, she creates an environment where nurses feel safe to ask questions, grow, and build confidence in their skills. Learners leave her sessions not only with greater knowledge but with a renewed sense of pride in the nursing profession.
What makes Marina truly special is the genuine care she shows for every nurse she encounters. She takes the time to listen, encourage, and support staff in ways that go far beyond traditional education. Whether mentoring a new nurse who is feeling overwhelmed, helping a colleague strengthen a clinical skill, or simply offering words of encouragement during a challenging day, Marina reminds us that education is about people first.
One moment that reflects her impact occurred when, at a moment’s notice, a new workflow was identified regarding an injection. Marina immediately recognized that the nurses had not had exposure or education regarding the new workflow, immediately created a guide, arranged for staff to have an opportunity to observe the injection workflow at another service line, and implemented the process to improve patient care all within a week’s time. Experiences like this are not rare with Marina; they happen regularly because she approaches every interaction with patience, empathy, and a genuine desire to see others succeed.
Through her leadership, creativity, and unwavering support of nurses, Marina has strengthened our team and improved the care we provide for our patients and community. She inspires nurses to keep learning, to believe in themselves, and to always lead with compassion.
For these reasons and so many more, I cannot think of someone more deserving of the DAISY Nurse Educator Award than Marina Dettori. Her influence reaches far beyond the classroom and will continue to shape the nurses they teach for years to come.
