Mariama was kind, empathetic, and amusing company throughout my entire hospital stay. She truly stood out for her professionalism every morning when the medical team came around to discuss my condition and progress.

She remembered every little detail- often reminding me when I had questions about my disease or care regimen- was attentive, and always ready with answers to all the questions the doctors asked her. She also made proactive suggestions that were invariably endorsed by the team.

Mariama’s kindness was especially evident when my family came to visit. Because the unit was under heightened isolation protocols due to local flu, COVID, and RSV infection rates, my sons weren’t allowed in to see me. Knowing how upset they were by my sudden admission to the hospital, Mariama offered to escort me down to the hospital lobby so I could see them. It was an emotional experience for all of us, and I cannot thank her enough for her thoughtfulness and compassion.
