Maria truly was our angel during every step of the difficult, emotional, stressful, and memorable experience.
My son was in the ICU due to a traumatic motorcycle accident. He was left with severe brain, facial, and other injuries. Maria was one of his nurses from day one. She became the family’s angel during this most emotional and difficult time, which required decisions to be made that never had been experienced.
Maria’s compassionate and heartfelt care provided much comfort. Knowing how well my son was cared for during this time, he was never alone. He was surrounded by his loving family every day. All staff members were great and displayed concern and support.
Sadly enough, my son was not making progress. His wish, if ever in that situation, was to be an organ donor. The family never had any experience with the Donor Network process. Maria and the donor team assisted in every way with the entire process. She was involved with removing my son from his ventilator. She wept silently along with the family, who was full of emotional pain and tears. My son did not pull through and was able to donate his kidneys, lungs, and liver to recipients who would benefit. Blessed are those who participated.
Maria truly was our angel during every step of the difficult, emotional, stressful, and memorable experience. Words cannot express our family’s gratitude for all her support and care throughout his entire stay.
This letter for Maria’s nomination is long overdue. I’ve picked up pen and paper many times, not knowing how to write a thank you, only to put it away for a better day that didn’t include my tears. I highly recommend Maria, an ICU RN at Abrazo West Campus. She demonstrated that she has everything it takes to be an excellent, knowledgeable, caring, compassionate, and blessed nurse in the ICU. I will never forget Maria as the beautiful angel who touched our hearts while enduring the loss of our truly beloved son. Thank you!
