When you’re sent to the hospital, and you don’t know what’s wrong, it’s nice to know that you have a good nurse. All nurses are great here at the VA. What’s important is bedside manner. Ms. Tooley was a great example. She was not in and done; she actually sat down and talked to me. She explained everything she was doing. She did what she was supposed to do. She was also very gentle and made me laugh. Though you’re not in the ER for long, I was feeling a little bedside relief because of her professional attitude, and she made me feel a little better before I was sent to PCU for the beginning of my treatment. She checked on me often and got me into PJs before going to the floor. She inventoried my property, making it easier for the PCU staff. Ms. Tooley’s compassion for helping and caring for Veterans. I know that she’s an excellent example of an employee who puts patients first. You can tell she enjoys her job, and she is more than deserving of the DAISY award.
