Dr. Hartig is a Professor in the University of Tennessee Health Science Center College of Nursing and has been a faculty member since 1987.  She is a graduate of University of Kansas (BSN, 1974) and University of Tennessee Health Science Center (MS, 1977 & Ph.D., 1993).  Dr. Hartig has practiced as a Family Nurse Practitioner since 1977 in a variety of primary care clinics, an endocrinology specialty clinic, a nursing home and a disease management service. Most recently she practiced at the Bobbitt Health Station, the health clinic at Memphis International Airport. As an FNP, Dr. Hartig is very involved with the DNP-FNP program courses. The areas of primary care delivery and quality, chronic illness, and diabetes care are of particular interest. Her research now focuses on inter-professional program development and evaluation, as well as primary care delivery and quality evaluation. She previously examined the practice activities of College of Nursing faculty. In addition to conducting quality program improvement research and teaching related content in the graduate program, Dr. Hartig has written and spoken to many groups about faculty evaluation activities and development of evidence-based practice. She is a Fellow of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners and holds membership in several nursing organizations. Dr. Hartig also is active in several health-related organizations in the Memphis area, including the Common Table Health Alliance, the regional health collaborative for the southeastern U.S.
