As an individual with chronic illness, I have encountered many health care professionals, but Marcie Kniaz is the reason I still hold on to hope.
If I had to choose words that describe Marcie’s care, they would be “Above and Beyond”. From the first moment I had the pleasure of interacting with Marcie, I knew I was going to be well taken care of. She has done nothing but exceed any and all of my expectations. I am receiving care from the transplant team all the way from Tennessee. As an out-of-state patient, my care has required a high level of organization and coordination. Marcie has coordinated so many aspects of my care that there are too many to list.

While overcoming every obstacle that came our way with the coordination of care with my out of state team, she has constantly provided me with the reassurance that she would do everything in her power to get everything taken care of. She assured me I was in good hands and that she would take the best care of me. Marcie has been there for me in so many ways. She has listened to me cry on countless occasions related to my diagnoses and all the challenges that I have faced with it. I have always felt so supported and cared for when Marcie is involved.

One thing that makes Marcie absolutely incredible is that she truly listens to you. I have had multiple conversations with Marcie and I have always ended the conversation feeling completely heard, understood, and confident that I am receiving the best care in the world. She has this incredible way of making you feel like you are the only patient in the world, and she is there to take care of all of your needs when I know full well that I am just one of many that she is responsible for. I know Marcie wears many hats in her position as a transplant coordinator, but I feel she wears the "nursing hat" the best. She is the most compassionate, hardworking, trustworthy, and reliable healthcare worker I have ever encountered.

As an individual with chronic illness, I have encountered many health care professionals, but Marcie Kniaz is the reason I still hold on to hope. She is one of the reasons that I will not stop fighting for answers and I will never give up. Nurses like Marcie are the reason patients like me get their lives back. I consider myself so incredibly fortunate to have crossed paths with Marcie. I look forward to continuing working with her throughout my transplant care at UW. She makes all the travel worth it.
