My father was admitted to the hospital in March, 2018 with unexplained bleeding. As unsettling as this would be for anyone, it was especially so for him having recently lost my mother after a lengthy battle with cancer. Along with this being emotionally draining, he was in a great deal of discomfort. My father had many questions during his week-long stay as his doctors were trying to find out what was causing the bleeding. He also had to ask for assistance to use the bathroom constantly which can be unnerving for most people, especially a man his age. While all the nurses were helpful, Marcia went above and beyond the call of duty. Marcia made continuous checks on my father. Marcia answered all his questions as well as those I had. If she didn't know the answer, she would seek it out immediately. My father felt very comfortable asking Marcia for assistance because of her genuine concern and his respect for her. We all knew he was in the best hands possible when Marcia was on duty. It was a great relief knowing she was there for him especially the overnights and when we could not be present for my father. Though this submission comes months after my father's hospital stay, it is nonetheless sincere and deserved. He still speaks of her today. Marcia is a tremendous asset to Norwalk Hospital, an exemplary nurse and most deserving of the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses.
