Malia has stood up for my child, made her comfortable even for the smallest things, challenged her, and understood her.
While every hospital has so many nurses, not very many hospitals have exceptional ones such as Malia! We are currently admitted for care with PCH. B (patient) is a very stubborn, strong-willed child. You see, B has extreme anxiety for hospitals due to spending her whole nine years of life in and out of them. We have spent the last 8 and a half years getting care at an outside institution that has played into her current medical issues and medical trauma. Upon coming here this month, had it not been for Malia it would have been lots more unbearable. Malia has stood up for my child, made her comfortable even for the smallest things, challenged her, and understood her. We have never had that happen. Malia took the time to stand guard by our door to make sure care teams knew not only our wishes, but our child's wishes too. She didn’t make her do anything; she taught her. She wasn’t rude when B started showing anxiety, she sat with her and talked it out. B was very upset when it came to her day off. Malia promised her that she would try everything in her power to “request” working with her again, so the changes didn’t set her off. B stated, “that was nice of her mom, but I don’t think she will really do that.” To both our surprise, we woke up the next morning to Malia as our nurse. B was beyond ecstatic and started jumping up and down the minute that she left the room. She said, “I knew it was her by her voice, Mom!” You probably don’t have enough paper for the endless examples of the love and kindness that Malia has demonstrated over the course of our care. We appreciate her more than anything.
