She was able to motivate me to start taking care of myself when my depression was otherwise stopping me.
Maleka was only my nurse once during my stay, but she had by far the biggest impact in a short time. She came up to me in the morning to see how I was doing, beyond just fetching vitals and giving meds, but to truly ask how we felt and were doing mentally. When she found out that I was still struggling to maintain hygiene due to my low mood, she went to my room and arranged towels in the bathroom for me to shower, took my toothbrush out, put paste on it, and laid it in front of the sink for it to be ready when I got back from breakfast. She then took my gym shoes and placed them in the gym, so they would be there when it was time for gym hours. She was able to motivate me to start taking care of myself when my depression was otherwise stopping me. I had never seen a nurse go out of their way like that to ensure the best possible quality of life for their patients, and it was honestly a great way for me to start my day in a period when I was otherwise depressed around the clock and unable to generate any motivation.
