She was so warm, welcoming, patient, kind, and most of all, compassionate.
My mom was a patient of Makho's two days following a double mastectomy and Diep Flap reconstruction to treat her breast cancer. This was something that rocked our world, including my mom's. There was so much she had to adjust to following surgery. Upon being transferred to the 3rd floor Med-Surg unit, Makho was the first nurse to take care of my mom. Immediately, we felt a wave of relief. She was so warm, welcoming, patient, kind, and most of all, compassionate.

Following the surgery, my mom had 3 drains, a wound vac, and an abdominal binder. This is a lot for anyone to adjust to, but Makho was there for my mom every step of the way. One moment in particular that blew me away was when Makho handled my mom's wound vac device, which was not working. On the day of discharge, the wound vac was not suctioning correctly. My mom explained this to Makho, who then followed up with several others, including her charge nurse, the doctor, the case manager, and the device rep, to ensure she had a working and functional piece of equipment going home. She worked on this all day, despite being so busy receiving a patient admission and caring for the other patients she already had. We were so thankful to have Makho as my mom's advocate to ensure she was set up for success and recovery following discharge.

On top of going out of her way professionally, Makho was so comforting to my mom. Obviously, we were by my mom's side through everything, but knowing the person who is taking care of you genuinely cares about your comfort, health, wellbeing, and safety truly meant to the world. We are so thankful to have had Makho by my mom's side through this trying and challenging time in her life.
